Blue Star Oversized Bullrock | Riprap

Blue Star Oversized is our largest Blue Star product — angular, blue-gray bullrock (also called rip rap) sized 1×4 and 9×16 inches. Unlike our smaller Blue Star crushed gravel, this size is built for heavy-duty erosion control and structural applications, while still bringing the same striking blue-gray color to bold landscape accents.

SIZE

1-4 and 9-16 inches, with some larger pieces present due to natural variation

HEAVY, INTERLOCKING SHAPE

At this size, Blue Star’s angular edges do more than resist shifting — the weight and shape let individual stones interlock into a stable mass that holds up against water flow and soil movement. This is what makes oversized bullrock effective where smaller gravel would wash out.

DURABLE LIMESTONE ORIGIN

Quarried and sized from regional limestone deposits, built to hold up under South Texas heat, heavy rainfall, and sustained water exposure.

COLOR COMPATIBILITY

The cool blue-gray tone works as a bold focal stone against modern homes, gray or blue exteriors, and pairs well with concrete, pavers, and xeriscaping.

Recommended Uses

Blue Star Oversized is built for jobs where weight and stability matter, with the bonus of a striking color:

  • Erosion control & slope stabilization: The size and angular interlock resist displacement from water flow, making it effective on embankments and slopes.
  • Drainage ditches & channel lining: Handles concentrated water flow better than smaller gravel, which can wash away.
  • Retaining wall backfill: Provides drainage and structural support behind retaining walls.
  • Dry creek beds & swales: Manages stormwater runoff while keeping a natural, intentional look.
  • Pond & water feature edges: A popular choice for lining pond edges and accenting water features, since it holds its position even with regular water exposure.
  • Bold decorative accents: Large enough to use as standalone accent stone or a border along garden beds and pathways.

How does Delivery work?

Here at the Rock Depot, we try to make the delivery process is designed to be as pain-free as possible.

  • Where do you deliver? We typically deliver to your driveway, though special requests can be made and are up to the discretion of the driver.
  • Are all drop locations accessible? Most drop locations are accessible unless you order 25 tons or more, which requires an 18-wheeler delivery and may need special access considerations. For more information about wholesale discounts, click here
  • Do I need to be there when they deliver? No, but it is highly recommended that someone be there to direct the driver. Once the material is dropped, not much can be done about it.
  • Can you spread the material? Due to the nature of a dump trailer, we aren’t able to spread the material very much. If there is room, we are able to drag drop the material to make the pile more manageable. For comprehensive landscaping, contact Padre Landscapes at (361)-949-6999
  • How much material can you haul at a time? For most deliveries, we can haul up to 5 cubic yards at a time. If you purchase 25 tons or more, the delivery will be carried out with an 18-wheeler.

Material Disclaimer

Due to the delivery process, your material may look a different color (usually a lighter color) from the desired look upon dumping. This is due to dust buildup from transferring material. Thoroughly wash the material after installation to achieve the correct look.

How Much Material Do You Need?

Use this calculator to find out!

One ton of oversized bullrock 1-4″ laid at a 6″ depth typically covers 35-40 square feet. At a shallower 4″ depth, expect closer to 50 square feet per ton.
